Introduction

Instead of drilling holes in the hull, use a Stern Pad to save your transom and keep the value of your boat. Transducers, LED lights, pumps, antennae, and other devices that can be attached to a boat can all be mounted on the Stern Pad. The mounting block adheres to the hull using a particular form of 3M VHB adhesive that eliminates the need for screws. The adhesive has been thoroughly tested and has passed a saltwater submersion test for a period of ten years! 3 adhesive cable clips are included (secured by 3M VHB Adhesive). Materials for site preparation are included (3M Scotch-brite pad and alcohol wipe). Installation takes less than 5 minutes (excluding 24-hour adhesive cure time before boating). Black or white, if desired, the bottom can be painted permanent and semi-permanent (can be removed from gel-coat if needed)

Location Suggestions for Mounting

When mounted properly, transducers cause very little drag. A modern transducer has a small front profile, and just a piece of it should be in the water while the boat is on plane—it should “skim” the water. This reduces turbulence and allows for reliable measurements when the boat is in motion. Please refer to the transducer mounting instructions provided by the top transducer manufacturers, which are listed below.

HOW TO REMOVE STERN PAD

  • Gently press the two flat head screwdrivers into the VHB tape layer on one side of the Stern Pad with the flat head screwdrivers.
  • Between the screwdrivers and the boat hull, place the putty knives. The putty knives distribute the load exerted by the screwdrivers, protecting the boat hull.
  • Carefully tap the screwdrivers and putty knives into the pad’s middle with the hammer or mallet. Screwdrivers will be used as wedges.
  • Please take your time! As the wedges separate the Stern Pad from the hull, the stern pad will begin to detach from the hull.
  • It’s possible that there’s some VHB tape left over. It can be removed by hand or with the help of a stripping wheel.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In what position should a transducer be placed in the water?
The transducer should be level with, or slightly below, the boat’s bottom. cutting-edge (the edge closest to the transom of the boat). If the transducer is slanted out of the water by one click, the sonar signal will be lost.
  • On which side of the boat should a transducer be mounted?
The transducer should be organized on the starboard side of most single outboard boat propellers, which is the down stroke (right hand lower unit). This side generates the least amount of turbulence and is the most effective at producing the best results.
  • What is the composition of a stern pad?
Transducers, LED lights, pumps, antennae, and other devices that can be attached to a boat can all be mounted on the stern pad. CNC-machined from a synthetic plastic polymer that has been properly processed. Using a Stern Pad instead of drilling holes will save your transom and protect the value of your boat.
  • Is it possible to place a transducer too low?
Water will flow over the top of a transducer, generating a rooster tail, and air bubbles will go over the bottom of the transducer if it is placed too low in the water. The majority of transducers are situated TOO FAR from the boat’s keel.
  • How deep should a transducer be placed in the water?
The bottom of your transducer should be 3-4 mm below the waterline when attaching it to read at speed. Because the transducer can only ping when submerged in water, it must be submerged. If it’s too deep, the front face can cause turbulence and bubbles, which is terrible.
